Our Origin Story

Macemark Pty Limited has its roots in a business built on expertise, relationships, and a genuine commitment to better outcomes in healthcare. Understanding where we came from helps explain who we are today.

Where it began — SESS

The business was founded in 1983 as Sterilizing Equipment Sales and Service — known as SESS. It was established by Dave Flanagan and Denis Norman after they identified a clear gap in the market: rural hospitals in Queensland were not receiving adequate support for their sterilisation and infection control needs. SESS was created to fill that gap.

From the outset, SESS built its reputation on technical knowledge and reliable, relationship-driven service. The team understood that the products they supplied were not optional extras — they were essential to safe patient care. That sense of responsibility has never left the business.

Growth across Australia and into the Pacific

Over the decades, SESS expanded its service and supply area well beyond its origins. The business grew to cover all of Queensland, northern New South Wales, and Papua New Guinea — a substantial geographic footprint that reflected both the quality of the service and the trust customers placed in the team.

Today, the organisation employs more than 40 staff across Australia and an overseas support team, continuing to deliver the same standard of expertise that defined it from the beginning.

The transition to Macemark Pty Limited

The business is now transitioning from the SESS trading name to Macemark Technology. This change reflects the evolution of the organisation — a broader product and service portfolio, expanded capabilities, and a continued commitment to being at the forefront of the sterilisation and infection control industry.

The name changes; the standards do not. As leaders in our field, we remain determined to ensure that the products and services we provide utilise the best infection control technology available.
